GET INTO GOLF GALA NIGHT
The first phase of our Get into Golf programme for men and women is coming to an end. We are delighted to say that we had over forty participating. This part included the golf lessons with David Hayes and four weeks practice on-course with our established members. A huge thanks to the members who came out to help our new golfers. I would also like to thank our PGA Professional David Hayes who is an integral part of our Get into Golf programme. We really appreciate the hospitality which Tom, Chris and their staff provide in the clubhouse each evening. On Wed night Jun 26^th we have an information meeting for our Get into Golf men and women outlining the next stage of the programme going forward. It will also be a social evening for our Get into Golf members. Please keep the date free.

INDIA SMYTH CHARITY CARD NIGHT

Thank you so much to everyone who supported our Charity Card fundraiser last Sunday night. We are raising funds for three year old India Smyth who is our club member Michael Kelly’s granddaughter. India is undergoing a Cancer trial in New York and we wish her and all the family the very best wishes and we are delighted to support their fundraising goal. On Sunday night we held a progressive 45 card night and it was very well supported and everyone was so generous.

We have raffle tickets on sale in the Bar and clubhouse with some fantastic prizes, €5 for one ticket or 3 for €10. Draw will take place on Sunday 30^th June. We hope you can support this very worthy cause.

GOLF INFORMATION EVENING

A large number of golfers attended this information night last Wednesday. Thanks to June James (President) who gave some practical tips on golf etiquette and basic rules. This was done out on the golf course. June Hayes (Handicap Secretary) explained simply about marking score cards and conversion of stableford points. We really appreciate the effort put in to prepare and present the information. Those in attendance gave very positive feedback.

Upcoming Inter Club Matches 

Our Senior Mens InterClub team take on Mitchelstown GC in the East Munster Area Semifinal on Wednesday, 19th June starting at 4.30pm.

Our JB Carr team are in action next week. We take on Ballykisteen GC in a Munster Quarterfinal over two legs. The first leg is in Dungarvan on Tuesday, 25th June and tees off at 1pm. The second leg in Ballykisteen GC on Friday, 28th June with a 2pm start. All support welcome for these matches.

We had a packed timesheet last Sunday for our Scratch Cups, from early in the morning to late into the afternoon members and visitors from near and far enjoyed great weather and super playing conditions. Our members came out on top winning all four Scratch Cups!

MARY MCKENNA TROPHY

This year’s Mary McKenna Trophy got underway on May 3rd. when 18 players began their practice rounds at home and in Youghal GC in preparation for our match on June 6th at home. We were successful with a great 4-1 win. The away leg proved to be very challenging, as we met a very determined home side, but we eventually emerged 6-4 winners on the aggregate score after a very close and sporting match.
Our next match will be against Fota, a one leg match on July 10, and the venue will be decided by a draw next week. Well done to the whole panel for getting us this far, unfortunately only 10 could play on the day. Players: Carmel O’Brien, Teresa Hayes, Angela Murphy, Ina Considine, Anne Heneberry, Celia Power, Bridget Aherne, Maura Kindregan, Daphne Power, June James. Reserves: Colette Power, Margaret Harty.

CLUB SINGLES MATCHPLAY

Members are invited to enter our Club Singles Matchplay competition sponsored by Martin Lynch. The format is Matchplay, Entry fee:  €10. The deadline for entry:  Monday 8^th July.

How to enter:  Sign the sheet in Gents Locker room, put €10 in an envelope and post it with your name into the 9 hole box in the locker room. The draw will take place on Tuesday 9^th July.

JUNIOR GOLF NEWS

Despite the poor weather our Juniors took to the course last Thursday and produced some wonderful golf. This was the first of our weekly Open Junior Competition. Patrick Mullaney and Cathal McKenna were the cream of the crop playing together and matching each other until Patrick pulled away over the final few holes. Our Next competition is on Thursday 20^th please book in online. We are off to Waterford Castle on Tuesday 25^th for

We were back last Wednesday 12^th for our weekly Youngones competitions with lovely weather conditions and great golf. 1^st Marcella McGovern (26) 20pts CB, 2^nd Bernie Hayes (24) 20pts, 3^rd Bridget Ahearne 917) 19pts. We are off to Waterford Castle on Wednesday 19^th for an outing and a great day is promised!

60.COM

We had an overflowing timesheet and wonderful weather for our 60.com competition on Wednesday 12^th June. The course was excellent and we had summer conditions with the ball “running a mile”! The scoring matched the conditions with a large number of scores in the 20s. The winners were: 1^st Denis O’Brien 24pts, 2^nd Adrian O’Driscoll 22pts, 3^rd Tom O’Callaghan 22pts. Next week we have our third outing of the year and are going to Faithlegg Golf Club. If you are interested in social golf, and are over 60 years of age, then join us any Wednesday by putting your name on our timesheet.

LOTTO RESULTS
We had our weekly Lotto 6 draw on Friday, 14th June. This was Week 5 of 52. The numbers drawn were 13, 18, 20 and 24. The jackpot was €2,200, and there was no winner. The jackpot is €2,300 for the next draw. We had one match 3 winner – Breda Kiely – who wins €100. The next draw will take place on Friday 21^st June at 3.30pm. Thank you to everyone who supports our Lotto. All funds raised are used to develop our course.

CENTENARY BOOK ON SALE

Our Centenary book is selling well and thank you to everyone who has purchased to date. Our book is now on sale in Eason’s and David Walsh’s in Dungarvan. The book is €20 and contains wonderful photos and stories from the past 100 years.
