OPEN CENTENARY SUMMER CLASSIC

We continue our Centenary celebrations by holding an Open Summer Classic which will run from Monday 15^th – Sunday 21^st July. Entry is €100 per team of 4 with re-entry €15pp. We have lots of great prizes including Best Overall, Ladies, Gents, Mixed and Daily Prize. GET INTO GOLF 2024
The first phase of the programme is coming to an end and it is ‘make your mind up time’ for our new golfers. We are holding our Gala night on Wednesday Jun 26^th at 7.30pm which will outline the advantages of being part of the Get into Golf programme. Judging by their enthusiasm and positive feedback we expect most of the participants to continue with Dungarvan Golf Club.

INDIA SMYTH FUNDRAISING RAFFLE

We are raising funds for three-year-old India Smyth who is our club member Michael Kelly’s granddaughter. India is undergoing a Cancer trial in New York and we wish her and all the family the very best wishes and we are delighted to support their fundraising goal. On Sunday night we held a progressive 45 card night and it was very well supported and everyone was so generous.

We have raffle tickets on sale in the Bar and clubhouse with some fantastic prizes, €5 for one ticket or 3 for €10. Draw will take place on Sunday 30^th June. We hope you can support this very worthy cause.

SENIOR MENS INTERCLUB TEAM

We took on Mitchelstown GC last Wednesday in the East Munster Regional Semifinal. This is a Fourball matchplay event for over 50’s. It proved to be a titanic tussle. We lost matches 1 and 2. In match 3, Declan Walsh and Matt Curran were 3 down after 12 holes and the writing seemed to be on the wall. But Declan and Matt fought back to all square after 15 holes. They halved holes 16, 17 and 18 and the match was all square after 18 holes. They completed the 18th at 10pm and due to the failing light, it was agreed to reconvene at 3pm on Thursday afternoon for the sudden death playoff. Declan and Matt completed their comeback on the 19th and a conceded birdie for Matt was good enough to get us over the line. We had good wins in matches 4 and 5 and we finished with a 3-2 winning margin.

We now take on the winners of Fota Island GC v’s Mallow GC in the East Munster Final. This match will be played in Cork GC on Sunday, 14th July.

JB CARR TEAM

A reminder that our JB Carr team take on Ballykisteen GC this week in a Munster Quarterfinal. This is a Scotch Foursomes match for men aged 60+. This match will be played over 2 legs. The first leg is at home on Tuesday, 25th June and the first of 5 matches tees off at 1pm. The second leg will be played in Ballykisteen GC on Friday, 28th June with a 2pm start. All support welcome.

BARTON SHIELD

CLUB SINGLES MATCHPLAY

Members are invited to enter our Club Singles Matchplay competition sponsored by Martin Lynch. The format is Matchplay, Entry fee:  €10. The deadline for entry:  Monday 8^th July.

How to enter:  Sign the sheet in Gents Locker room, put €10 in an envelope and post it with your name into the 9-hole box in the locker room. The draw will take place on Tuesday 9^th July.

JUNIOR GOLF NEWS

Congratulations to our Boys Inter Club team of James O’Donnell, Harry Breen, Patrick Mullaney, Rory McKeown & Fionnán Drohan who won their match against Youghal GC in Youghal. We now go forward to play the area final in Youghal on July 18^th. This group of boys are great ambassadors for the club and our junior club.

Our Lessons continue on Saturday at 3pm. If your child would like to join as a junior member, please contact the office as we have great joining rates of €70 for ages 6 – 12 and €100 for ages 13 -18 (plus €7 Golf Ireland Levy). Please email office@dungarvangolfclub.com for an application form. Children will have great fun at Dungarvan Golf Club, learn to play golf, make new friends and develop life skills. A reminder to our junior members, that subscriptions for 2024 are due for payment.

YOUNGONES

We had a wonderful outing to Waterford Castle last Wednesday playing in glorious weather conditions. We had sunshine, chat, laughter, good food and golf which was enjoyed immensely by all. Special thanks to Marianne Mulcahy for all her hard work organising our outing. The format was a team of three Waltz. 60.COM

The 60.com society had its third outing of 2024 in Faithlegg Golf Course on Wednesday 19^th June. The weather was perfect and the course was in great condition. We originally booked slots for 36 players but we had 41 on the booking sheet – Faithlegg obliged by allowing the additional players. The scoring on the day was the best we have ever had in any of our outings.

SOUTH MUNSTER SENIORS

We welcome the South Munster Seniors to our club on Wednesday 10^th July, there are still a few tee times available. This is the second visit of the year and always a popular competition for members and visitors.

FUN FRIDAY FOURSOMES

Due to a very successful open fortnight we haven’t had our Friday Foursomes for some time. However, we are back on Friday July 5. Shotgun start at 9am and we play the back nine. No timesheet in operation. You simply turn up and we play nine holes of Scotch Foursomes. It is a very social event and a great way to integrate into our club.


GET INTO GOLF 9H QUALIFYING
This competition is specifically for Get into Golf ladies who have not yet reached a handicap of 36. We run it each Tuesday evening to help our Get into Golf ladies to get used to entering and playing in competitions. Results (Tuesday June 18) 1^st Mairead Flynn.


LOTTO RESULTS
We had our weekly Lotto 6 draw on Friday, 21th June. This was Week 6 of 52. The numbers drawn were 6, 9, 19 and 28. The jackpot was €2,300, and there was no winner. The jackpot is €2,400 for the next draw. We had two match 3 winners – Ciara Gogarty and Dave Morrissey – who win €50 each. The next draw will take place on Friday 28^th June at 3.30pm. Thank you to everyone who supports our Lotto. All funds raised are used to develop our course.

CENTENARY BOOK ON SALE

Our Centenary book is selling well and thank you to everyone who has purchased to date. Our book is now on sale in Eason’s and David Walsh’s in Dungarvan. The book is €20 and contains wonderful photos and stories from the past 100 years.
