LADY CAPTAINS WEEKEND

Our Lady Captain Kolette Enright will present her Lady Captains Prize on Saturday 27^th and Sunday 28^th July. The timesheet is now live for bookings. Those entering the competition must have two 18 holes or four 9 hole single qualifying competitions played at Dungarvan Golf Club this year. (Please note change) They must also have a fully developed handicap, i.e. have 20 Acceptable scores returned from Competition and General Play scores on their record. Entries will close on Thursday 25th July at 5pm and the draw will be posted on the club website at 8.00 pm approx.

Two 18 hole stroke rounds will be played and the aggregate score over the two
rounds will determine the overall winner. The time sheets for Sunday’s final round will be posted by 9.00pm. approx. on the Saturday night. Players should check their Sunday tee times by logging onto the club website.  An 18 hole S/F competition for non-eligible members or those unable to play both days will be held on Sunday afternoon July 28th.

A 9 Hole GIG S/F competition will be held on the Saturday afternoon. This competition is open to all Get into Golf players who have not previously entered an 18 hole S/F competition. A putting competition for new GIG members will be held on Sunday afternoon at approx. 3 pm. We wish our Lady Captain Kolette the very best for her weekend and hope the sun shines all of the weekend!

LADY CAPTAINS SCRAMBLE

Our Lady Captains Scramble will take place on Thursday 25^th July with a shotgun start at 6pm. The timesheet is open for bookings, please book your name any time between 1pm and 5.50pm on the timesheet.

OPEN CENTENARY SUMMER CLASSIC

Our Open Summer Classic commenced on Monday 15^th and runs until this Sunday 21^st July. Entry is €100 per team of 4 with re-entry €15pp. We have lots of great prizes including Best Overall, Ladies, Gents, Mixed and Daily Prize. There are still tee times available for the rest of the week. Bookings are open online on our website or call the office 058-43310. We look forward to welcoming lots of visitors for our open classic.

SPAR QUALIFIER 2024

Congratulations to our SPAR Qualifiers to date. This Open competition is run every Friday and is kindly sponsored by SPAR. Congratulations to our week 4 and week 5 qualifiers:

SENIOR MENS INTERCLUB TEAM

We defeated a very strong team from Fota Island GC in the East Munster Area Final in Cork GC on Sunday. The final result was 3-2 in our favour. We were on top in four of the five matches after 9 holes but it got tighter on the back 9. Eventually, with the scores at 2 wins each, it came down to PJ Kindregan and Matt Curran in match 5 to secure the decisive third win. PJ and Matt won 2&1. We also had wins for Des Cleary and Tommy Butler plus Maurice Conway and Declan Walsh. Limerick GC defeated Dooks in the West Munster final which also took place yesterday in Tralee. We next meet Limerick GC in the Munster Final. The final will be played in Thurles GC in August, exact date to be confirmed.

JB CARR TEAM

We took on Charleville GC in Charleville in the first leg of our Munster Semifinal clash on Monday last, 8th July. We are 2-3 in arrears after the first leg. We had wins for Mossie Walsh and his partner Captain Liam Hansbury and our second win thanks to Maurice Conway and Johnny Norris. We play the second leg at home on this Friday, 19th July commencing at 2.30pm.  Work to be done to turn things around.

MARY MCKENNA TROPHY

Dungarvan Golf Club senior ladies played Fota on Wednesday in Fota in the Mary McKenna Trophy and recorded a great win by a 3/2 margin and advance to the Munster semifinal against Clonmel.  It was a very tight affair, and the result was only decided when our last pairing won on the 17th. It was a great away win for the ladies as it’s not easy to go to Fota and win. On the way to the win, Daphne Power had a hole in one on the 12th, congratulations to you Daphne as you capped a great day for Dungarvan ladies.

JUNIOR GOLF NEWS

We had an amazing turnout for our Junior lessons last Saturday, 40 boys and girls turned up to our very popular lessons and thank you to James Hayes and Alan O’Donnell for their invaluable assistance to our Pro David Hayes. A great day was had by all.

If your child would like to join as a junior member, please contact the office as we have great joining rates of €70 for ages 6 – 12 and €100 for ages 13 -18 (plus €7 Golf Ireland Levy). LADIES OUTING TO CAHIR PARK

A group of 30 ladies travelled to Cahir Park on Sunday 14^th July for what turned out to be a very enjoyable day of golf. The weather was for the most part very warm and sunny with just the odd shower. We rounded off the day with a tasty meal in the clubhouse. Lady Captain Kolette presented the prizes.

Congrats to Sarah Moynihan who has been chosen to play on the U18 Munster Interprovincial team. She plays her next match on Tuesday 16^th in Castlebar against Connacht. Wishing Sarah all the very best!

We enjoyed a great round of golf in beautiful sunshine last week. We will have no competition this week due to our Open Club Classic. Results from last Wednesday 10^th 1^st Maria A Kiersey (39) 19pts, 2^nd Ruth Byrne (39) 18pts, 3^rd Kate Morrissey (48) 17pts.

60.COM

We had a glorious day for our 60.com competition on Wednesday 10 July. We had a full-time sheet with golfers anxious to show their skills. As usual the scoring was excellent. 1^st Jack Elstead 23pts, 2^nd Nial Herlihy 22pts, 3^rd Rogie Cashin 21pts. We have our 4th outing of 2024 in Tramore Golf Club Wednesday 24^th July. The booking sheet for this will be available in the men’s locker room on Sunday 15^th July. If you are interested in social golf, and are over 60 years of age, then join us any Wednesday by putting your name on our timesheet.

GET INTO GOLF 9HOLE QUALIFYING COMPETITION
It is great to see so many of our new golfers entering this competition each Tuesday evening. It is specifically for Get into Golf ladies who have a handicap above 36.

GET INTO GOLF 2024
The get into golf practice continues every Monday evening for both men and women from 7-8 pm. It is great way to meet others, play a few holes of golf and enjoy a chat in the bar later.

LOTTO RESULTS
We had our weekly Lotto 6 draw on Friday, 12th July. This was Week 9 of 52. The numbers drawn were 5, 8, 11 and 19. The jackpot was €2,600, and there was no winner. The jackpot is €2,700 for the next draw. We had one match 3 winner – John Warren – who won €100. The next draw will take place on Friday 19^th July at 3.30pm. Thank you to everyone who supports our Lotto. All funds raised are used to develop our course.

CENTENARY BOOK ON SALE

Our Centenary book is selling well and thank you to everyone who has purchased to date. Our book is now on sale in Eason’s and David Walsh’s in Dungarvan. The book is €20 and contains wonderful photos and stories from the past 100 years.
