SPAR QUALIFIER 2024

Congratulations to our SPAR Qualifiers to date. This Open competition is run every Friday and is kindly sponsored by SPAR. Next competition is this Friday 9^th August and the timesheet is open online for bookings. GOLF IRELAND
Sam Power (Munster Representative) with his media team visited our club last week to highlight the Get into Golf programme in Dungarvan Golf Club and to use it as a promotional video. It was an ideal day to showcase our club with the sun shining and the course in pristine condition. Thanks to David Hayes (our PGA Professional) Tom Daly and staff in the bar, our Get into Golf committee and participants who all gave of their time to promote Dungarvan Golf Club.

JB CARR MUNSTER FINAL

We played the first leg of our Munster Final v’s Woodstock GC on Thursday last.

We have a 5-0 lead after this first leg which was at home. The winning pairs were Des Cleary and Tommy Butler, Pat Phelan and Jim Harty, Declan Walsh and Matt Curran, Mossie Walsh and Captain Liam Hansbury plus Maurice Conway and Johnny Norris. Maurice and Johnny were 3 down after 12 holes but fought back strongly to win their match on the 19th.

The second leg will be played in Woodstock GC in Ennis, Co Clare on this Thursday, 8th August and the first match tees off at 1pm. Best of luck to all the team and team managers.

MUNSTER U14 BOYS

Congratulations to our Junior Rory McKeown who is on the Munster U14 team. They beat Connacht 4 and a half to a half last week. A great win for the team and Rory!

JUNIOR GOLF NEWS

We have an Open Junior Competition every Thursday and welcome juniors from clubs from neighbouring clubs. Book online or call to book.

Thank you to all the juniors who attended lessons and to all the parents for their invaluable assistance. Our lessons are very popular and if your child would like to try them out just come along on Saturdays from 3 – 4pm.

If your child would like to join as a junior member, please contact the office as we have great joining rates of €70 for ages 6 – 12 and €100 for ages 13 -18 (plus €7 Golf Ireland Levy). Please email office@dungarvangolfclub.com for an application form. Children will have great fun at Dungarvan Golf Club, learn to play golf, make new friends and develop life skills.

SUNDAY SOCIAL SCRAMBLE
It was a dull afternoon, but it didn’t deter our golfers who turned out in large numbers.

The annual Past and Present Captains/Presidents competition will be held on Sunday 8th September and the timesheet is now open for member and visitor bookings. This is a team of two competition with Handicap Limit of 36.

After our outing to Tramore Golf Club we were back to our normal weekly competition in Dungarvan on Wednesday 31 July. The weather for the golf was perfect and the scoring was excellent: 1^st  Mossie MacNamara 21pts, 2^nd Liam Carroll 21pts, 3^rd Martin Landers 20pts. If you are interested in social golf, and are over 60 years of age, then join us any Wednesday by putting your name on our timesheet.    

LADIES PLAY IN PINK

Our timesheet is open on Tuesday 20^th August for Open Ladies 3 Person Waltz Play In Pink supporting the National Breast Cancer Research. We look forward to welcoming lots of visitors on that date.

FUN FRIDAY FOURSOMES
We were delighted to see so many participate in this social event last Friday. Our new format is working well and proving more sociable as everyone comes in together and there is great chat in the bar later. Many thanks to Tom and staff for looking after us so well.

GET INTO GOLF 9 HOLE QUALIFYING COMPETITION
This event is scheduled each Tuesday evening from 6 pm. This competition is ideal for our new golfers who have a handicap and introduces them to entering a competition, learn the rules of golf and course etiquette. Results (Tuesday – July 30)

GET INTO GOLF 2024
Practice continues each Monday evening from 7 pm. Why not practice a few holes of golf and go to the bar later for a chat and a cup of coffee.


DIVOTS, BUNKERS & PITCHMARKS

Members are reminded to please ensure that you replace divots, rake bunkers and repaid pitch marks on the greens.

LOTTO RESULTS
We had our weekly Lotto 6 draw on Friday, 2nd August. This was Week 12 of 52.
The numbers drawn were 9, 11, 16 and 20. The jackpot was €2,900, and there was no winner. The jackpot is €3,000 for the next draw. We had four match 3 winners – June Hayes, John Byrne, Kevin Quinlan and Phil Murphy – who win €25 each. The next draw will take place on Friday 9^th August at 3.30pm. Thank you to everyone who supports our Lotto. All funds raised are used to develop our course.

COBRA GOLF

We are delighted to announce that Cobra Golf are coming to Dungarvan. Cobra are one of the world’s leading club manufacturers and are used by many professionals and amateurs alike. The event takes place next Thursday 8th August from 2 to 6pm. If you would like a free consultation with a Cobra technician call the Proshop on 058- 44707 to reserve a place. This is a popular event so book early to avoid disappointment.

CENTENARY BOOK ON SALE

Thank you to everyone who has purchased to date. Our book is on sale in the clubhouse, Eason’s and David Walsh’s in Dungarvan. The book is €20 and contains wonderful photos and stories from the past 100 years.
