JB CARR MUNSTER CHAMPIONS

In the province of Munster, 46 clubs competed in the 2024 JB Carr Diamond Trophy Tournament. Despite the large number of participating clubs, the 2024 Munster Final was a repeat of the 2023 final between Woodstock GC and DGC. 

The 2024 final also followed a very similar pattern to last year. We held a 5-0 lead after the first leg in Dungarvan but it turned into a classic game of two halves. In very wet conditions, we eventually claimed the vital sixth point thanks to Des Cleary and Tommy Butler with a 3 and 1 win. Des and Tommy also secured the title in 2023. Match 4 was still in play so the final result was a 6.5 – 3.5 win and we now advance to the All-Ireland series in Woodenbridge GC on the weekend of Saturday, 31st August and Sunday, 1st September. More about that in the coming weeks. Congratulations to all the team and team managers Jimmy Wemyss and Martin Lynch.

SENIOR MENS INTERCLUB MUNSTER FINAL

We play Limerick GC in the Munster Final in Thurles GC on Sunday next, 18th August and the first match tees off at 1.30pm. All support welcome.

PRESIDENTS PRIZE 2024

Our Presidents Prize kindly presented by June James will take place on Friday 30^thAug, Saturday 31^st Aug and Sunday 1^st September. The timesheet will be open shortly for bookings. The Presidents Scramble will take place on Wednesday 28^th August.

CHARITY BRIDGE NIGHT

As a follow up fundraiser to our very successful card night for The India Smyth Fund we have decided to run a Bridge night to supplement this very worthy cause. India is Michael and Finola Kelly’s granddaughter. She is three years old and is undergoing a cancer clinical trial in New York.

SOCIAL EVENING & SCRAMBLE – GET INTO GOLF 2024

JUNIOR GOLF NEWS

We held the Waterford Golf Junior Sixes Final on Sunday 11^th August and welcomed junior golfers from across the county. A great day was had by all and all the juniors had fun and enjoyed playing golf.  We have an Open Junior Competition every Thursday and welcome juniors from clubs from neighbouring clubs. Book online or call to book.

Thank you to all the juniors who attended lessons last Saturday and to all the parents for their invaluable assistance. Our lessons are very popular and if your child would like to try them out just come along on Saturdays from 3 – 4pm.

If your child would like to join as a junior member, please contact the office as we have great joining rates of €70 for ages 6 – 12 and €100 for ages 13 -18 (plus €7 Golf Ireland Levy). The annual Past and Present Captains/Presidents competition will be held on Sunday 8th September and the timesheet is now open for member and visitor bookings. This is a team of two competition with Handicap Limit of 36. This is open to both men and ladies.

60.COM

We had a lovely day for our 60.com competition on 7 August. Our timesheet was overflowing with blocks taken before and after the official slots. We had some wonderful scores: 1^st Kevin Kiersey 26pts, 2^nd Stephen Lynch 21pts, 3^rd John Hickey 19pts. If you are interested in social golf, and are over 60 years of age, then join us any Wednesday by putting your name on our timesheet.

LADIES PLAY IN PINK

Our timesheet is filling up fast for Tuesday 20^th August – Open Ladies 3 Person Waltz Play In Pink supporting the National Breast Cancer Research. We look forward to welcoming lots of visitors on that date.

Yet again we had a large entry for our Scotch Foursomes last Friday morning. The new format is very popular with a shotgun start at 9 am and playing the back nine holes.

GET INTO GOLF 9 HOLE QUALIFYING COMPETITION
This takes place each Tuesday from 6pm. It is a great opportunity for our new golfers who have a handicap to get used to playing in competitions and is proving very popular with them. Results (6/08/24) 1^st Carol Walsh 17 pts.

Refresher Golf Lessons for Get into Golf Ladies
These lessons commence on Monday Aug 19 with our PGA Professional David Hayes. Demand is keen and presently there is a waiting list in place! We find that these particular lessons are invaluable to our new golfers as they have been on the golf course for a number of weeks and they understand what David is doing and can ask relevant questions.

LOTTO RESULTS
We had our weekly Lotto 6 draw on Friday, 9th August. This was Week 13 of 52. The numbers drawn were 6, 11, 20 and 23. The jackpot was €3,000, and there was no winner. The jackpot is €3,100 for the next draw. We had three match 3 winners – Marion Phelan, Pat Frisby and Michael Curran – who each win €34. The next draw will take place on Friday 16^th August at 3.30pm. Thank you to everyone who supports our Lotto. All funds raised are used to develop our course.

CENTENARY BOOK ON SALE
