CAPTAINS PRIZE 2024 – LIAM HANSBURY

Our Captains Prize kindly presented by Liam Hansbury took place at the weekend and what a weekend it was! The sun shone down over the three days and the course was in super shape. 

Now in its second year the Captains Plate is proving very popular. Congratulations to Will Gough who came through our Get Into Golf program last year, Will had a great round with a winning score of 40 points. Also well done to Maurice Cliffe who finished second on a score of 38 points. Our Captains Prize to ladies went down to the wire with a very popular win for our President June James who pipped Carmel O’Brien on countback. 

The Captains Prize was equally tight with both Tommy Butler and Declan Walsh both finishing on a score of 136 with Tommy just coming out on top due to countback and a superb 64 on Sunday. Congratulations to Tommy we are all delighted with your win. Tommy was presented with the most beautiful piece of Waterford Crystal by Captain Liam, specially commissioned with an engraving of our 2nd green. 

It was super to see a great crowd in the clubhouse on Sunday evening for the presentation and a fantastic evening was had by all.  Congratulations to Liam and all his committee on a very successful weekend. Thank you to our course, catering, office and pro shop staff for all their work in ensuring the weekend went well.

CENTENARY GOLF & BBQ DAY

To continue our Centenary celebrations we are holding a Centenary Summer BBQ Day this Sunday 9th June. The day will commence with Gents/Ladies 18H Stableford in the morning and a 9H Scramble in the afternoon with a shotgun start at 3pm. Lots of golf options to choose from! Our BBQ will commence at 6pm and we have great music lined up along with delicious food and fun! We would love as many members and friends to come along and celebrate with us. Tickets are 20 euro and available to buy in the bar and office or over the phone on 058-43310.

CENTENARY BOOK ON SALE

Our Centenary book is selling well and thank you to everyone who has purchased to date. Our book is now on sale in Eason’s and David Walsh’s in Dungarvan. The book is €20 and contains wonderful photos and stories from the past 100 years.

WATERFORD GLASS PERPETUAL TROPHY – OPEN
The Waterford Glass Perpetual Trophy is an Open Gents 18H Singles S/F which will take place this Saturday 8th June. This competition is kindly sponsored by Des Cleary. There are some fantastic prizes to be won. The timesheet is open for bookings online. We thank Des for his continued generous sponsorship.

JB CARR TEAM

Our JB Carr team secured a County Final win in Faithlegg last Wednesday. We held a 3-2 lead after the first leg at home and the final result after two legs was a 6.5-3.5 winning margin. The winning pairs were John Gough & John G Moloney, Maurice Conway & Johnny Norris plus Des Cleary & Tommy Butler. That’s five JB Carr County titles in a row and six of the last seven.

We now move on to the Munster Quarter Final and we will be taking on the Tipperary County Champions, Ballykisteen GC. That match will be played over two legs with the first leg at home. No dates as yet for these matches.

SENIOR MENS INTERCLUB TEAM

The Senior Mens InterClub team take on the Gold Coast GC in Round 4 of this competition.

The match is on next Sunday 9th June. It will be played in the Gold Coast GC with the first match teeing off at 2pm. All support welcome.

Getting the Most out of your Golf 

June James, President will cover course etiquette and will take place out on the course.
June Hayes (Ladies Handicap Secretary) will help with scorecards, stableford points etc and this will be indoors. This information is important for everyone and is open to men and women on June 12th at 7pm.

JUNIOR GOLF NEWS

We had a great turnout for our weekly lessons last Saturday. Lessons are open to all and are €5 for the hour. Thank you to all the parents who helped us it is much appreciated.  Any members who wish to help out with junior lessons on Saturdays and have a free hour from 3-4pm please contact David Hayes.

If your child would like to join as a junior member, please contact the office as we have great joining rates of €70 for ages 6 – 12 and €100 for ages 13 -18 (plus €7 Golf Ireland Levy). Please email office@dungarvangolfclub.com for an application form. Children will have great fun at Dungarvan Golf Club, learn to play golf, make new friends and develop life skills. GET INTO GOLF 2024
The ladies have now completed lessons with David Hayes and are ready now for phase two which is going out on the golf course. The Get into Golf men started with David Hayes last Monday evening and will continue for three more consecutive Monday nights. We are delighted to have so many Get into Golf enthusiastic ladies and men and look forward to working with them.

GET INTO GOLF GALA NIGHT 
The information night outlining next phase of Get into Golf programme is scheduled for Wednesday June 26 at 7 pm. This is for both men and women.

LOTTO RESULTS
We had our weekly Lotto 6 draw today (Friday, 31st May). This was Week 3 of 52. The numbers drawn were 1, 3, 7 and 9. The jackpot was €2,000, and there was no winner. The jackpot is €2,100 for the next draw. We had five match 3 winners – Pat O’Mahony, Neil MacEoin, Emily Johnson, Michael Curran and Group (Mossie and Sean and Denis and Rogie and Maurice) – who each win €25.The next draw will take place on Friday 7^TH June at 3.30pm. Thank you to everyone who supports our Lotto. All funds raised are used to develop our course.
