CENTENARY GOLF & BBQ DAY

Our Centenary Summer BBQ took place on Sunday and we were thrilled with the support and response to this event from members and friends. We had a full timesheet in the morning for the Gents/Ladies Stableford and over 70 members played in our afternoon scramble. Special thank you to Tom Daly and Chris and his team put on a fantastic BBQ in the evening with a very large crowd enjoying great food and company. Thank you to Tyrone Power for the music. Thank you to Woodhouse, Stradbally for the use of the Marquee and to Minnies Bar for the use of their chairs. Thank you to President June James and the Centenary Committee for all their hard work ensuring this event was a wonderful success.

June James, President will cover course etiquette and will take place out on the course.
June Hayes (Ladies Handicap Secretary) will help with scorecards, stableford points etc and this will be indoors. This information is important for everyone and is open to men and women on June 12th at 7pm.

WATERFORD GLASS PERPETUAL TROPHY

The Waterford Glass Perpetual Trophy took place on Saturday 8^th June with a large number of entries on the day. Congratulations to Rogie O’Connor who won with a score of 46pts.  This competition was kindly sponsored by Des Cleary.

MIXED FOURSOMES TEAM

Hard luck to our Mixed Foursomes team who were beaten by Faithlegg Golf Club last Saturday.

JUNIOR CUP TEAM

Congratulations to our Junior Cup team who won their match against Lismore Golf Club on Saturday. A fantastic win for the team.

SENIOR MENS INTERCLUB TEAM

We faced local rivals, the Gold Coast, in the 4th round of the East Munster region. There were five Fourball matches and we came through with a 3.5 to 1.5 winning margin in very windy conditions. We had two good wins from Maurice Terry/Declan Walsh and John Gough/Derek Power but it was nail biting stuff to get the crucial third point.

Des Cleary/Tommy Butler had a very tight match against the Gold Coast pair of Tommy Long and Dave O’Connor. The Gold Coast won that match on the 21st. PJ Kindregan and Johnny Norris were 3 down after 11 holes but they staged a comeback to win their match 2 up. Captain Liam Hansbury and Tony Power were all square playing 18 and their match was called in. Our compliments to the Gold Coast on the condition of the course. We now have a home Quarter final against Mitchelstown GC. Date to be confirmed.

SCRATCH CUPS

Timesheet is filling up fast for our Scratch Cups this Sunday 16^th June with lots of members and visitors booked in. There are still some tee times available. Best of luck to all.

JUNIOR GOLF NEWS

We had a fantastic turnout for our weekly lessons last Saturday with 38 eager boys and girls taking part. Special thanks to Liam, James, Ger and Niamh for their invaluable assistance on the day. Lessons are open to all and are €5 for the hour. Any members who wish to help out with junior lessons on Saturdays and have a free hour from 3-4pm please contact David Hayes. Our Open Junior Competitions commence this Thursday and will take place every Thursday for the summer, spread the word!!

If your child would like to join as a junior member, please contact the office as we have great joining rates of €70 for ages 6 – 12 and €100 for ages 13 -18 (plus €7 Golf Ireland Levy). Please email office@dungarvangolfclub.com for an application form. Children will have great fun at Dungarvan Golf Club, learn to play golf, make new friends and develop life skills. A reminder to our junior members, that subscriptions for 2024 are due for payment.

LADIES SILVER & BRONZE MEDAL

Silver: Betty O’Brien is in the lead after two competitions with net aggregate of 152 closely followed by Aoife Lowry with 156. Bronze: Theresa Guiry is leading the race with net aggregate of 147. Angela Murphy and Teresa Hayes are hot on her heels with 153. With just two more competitions left (Day 1 and 2 of Lady Captains) its all to play for. Regional final in West Waterford on 4^th Sept.

YOUNGONES

We were back last Wednesday 5^th for our weekly Youngones competitions with lovely weather conditions and great golf. Results 1^st Mary Murphy (42) 22pts, 2^nd Rachel Kiely (22) 21pts, 3^rd Colette O’Mahony (25) 20pts. Our next competition is on this Wednesday.

60.COM

The conditions on Wednesday 5^th June where the best so far this year with a good run on the ball. These conditions brought out a large number of our 60.com members who enjoyed the day’s golf. The winners were: 1^st John Dalton 24pts, 2^nd Adrian O’Driscoll 19pts, 3^rd Paul Vart 19pts. If you’re interested in social golf, and are over 60 years of age, then join us any Wednesday by putting your name on our timesheet.

FUN FRIDAY FOURSOMES
It was great to see so many gathered on Friday morning for our Scotch Foursomes. We have a shot gun start at 9am and play off the back nine holes which means everyone comes in together. This means it is a very social event.
1^st Micheal Marrinan and Kate Morrissey 33 ¾, 2^nd Roger O’ Connor and Marion Burke 35 ¼. We are back again this Friday morning. There is no timesheet in operation – simply turn up at 9 am. Look forward to seeing you there.

GET INTO GOLF 2024
We are delighted with the enthusiasm and interest of both the men and women participating in this year’s programme. The ladies have completed their lessons with David Hayes and are out on the course with our lady members.
Phase one of the programme will end with our Gala night on Wed Jun 26. This is a social event for the ladies and men and will outline phase two of the programme. Finger food will be served on the night.

LOTTO RESULTS
We had our weekly Lotto 6 draw on Friday, 7th June. This was Week 4 of 52. The numbers drawn were 10, 17, 18 and 28. The jackpot was €2,100, and there was no winner. The jackpot is €2,200 for the next draw. We had three match 3 winners – Deirdre Dillon, Donal Verling and Josephine Melody – who each win €34. The next draw will take place on Friday 14^TH June at 3.30pm. Thank you to everyone who supports our Lotto. All funds raised are used to develop our course.

CENTENARY BOOK ON SALE

Our Centenary book is selling well and thank you to everyone who has purchased to date. Our book is now on sale in Eason’s and David Walsh’s in Dungarvan. The book is €20 and contains wonderful photos and stories from the past 100 years.

CHARITY CARD NIGHT

We are holding a Charity Card night on Sunday 16th June at 8pm. This important fundraiser is for for four year old India Smyth. India is club member Michael Kelly’s granddaughter and all funds raised go towards a clinical trial for cancer treatment in America. Please support this very worthy cause. Entry is €10 and there will be a raffle on the night.
